The end of construction is a useful time to understand the space you will maintain. Prepare a short handoff list while the project is underway so the final walk-through covers operation, care and any remaining work.
Keep the selected products identifiable
Ask for the names and relevant information for the installed materials and equipment. Store finish selections and product documents with the project records. Accurate identification makes a later care question or repair conversation easier.
Review the features you will operate
Have the appropriate installer explain controls and equipment included in the scope. Keep the manufacturer's instructions and service contacts. Ask how to get help if something operates differently from what was demonstrated.
Discuss care by material
Request guidance for the actual surfaces, planting and finishes supplied. Ask which tasks are routine and which concerns should be assessed by a professional. Avoid applying a generic cleaning or treatment recipe to every material in the yard.
Walk the complete scope
Use the current proposal and drawing to review the finished project, including access areas and restoration. Record any remaining items, who will handle them and the agreed next step. Keep questions specific enough to be checked later.
Separate product and project documents
Keep any written warranties and contract terms as supplied. Ask the contractor to explain the relevant contacts and process without assuming that a product warranty covers every part of the installation. Save the records somewhere you can find them when needed.
